Is Your Need for Acceptance Ruining Your Life?

When you have a deep-seated need to be accepted, please people and never fail, you lead your life from a place of fear, warns Jim Carrey. Ultimately, your need for these things will secure your failure and make you invisible. See how Carrey lays it all out in this inspirational video:

According to Carrey, everything comes down to two choices: love and fear. You can have faith in yourself and the world and pursue your dreams without holding back, or you can live in uncertainty and wait for changes that aren’t going to happen themselves.

How can you tell if you’re making decisions based on fear and a constant need for acceptance? Watch out for these signs:

  • Needing to please others.
  • Difficulty saying no.
  • Feeling like you’re not enough/good enough.
  • Comparing yourself to others.
  • Feeling shameful.
  • Thinking others don’t like you.

If you think you’re living your life from a place of fear, there’s something you can do about it. Remember that fear of the future is useless. The only thing that matters is the current moment and the decisions you make right now. Be sure to make those decisions with love and faith in your future. And, always, perceive challenges as the opportunities they are.
