These Sneaky Foods Sabotage Your Diet

These Sneaky Foods Sabotage Your Diet

(DailyProsper.com) – New Year, new you! This means getting off on the right foot with your weight loss regimen. Losing those pesky pounds can be hard to accomplish, and it’s easy to get derailed. Are you eating the right foods, drinking enough water and exercising, but still nothing’s coming off? See if you’re consuming any of these sneaky diet saboteurs.

Soda

Pop, sodas, soft drinks… whatever you like to call them, these sugary drinks carry a lot of negative health reviews. Regular non-diet pop is loaded with sugar and lots of artificial ingredients. It can also increase your risk for cancer, heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Healthline reports that consuming soda on a daily basis can lead to weight gain and obesity.

Diet sodas have a similar effect. Because they simulate sugary drinks, they can trick your brain into thinking you’re consuming the real thing. According to Self, this can lead to overeating because your body becomes confused over the missing calories and sends craving signals to make up the deficit. Soda is also packed with sodium, which can raise blood pressure and cause water retention.

Protein Bars

Another seemingly healthy food that can destroy your diet progress is the protein bar. Many companies advertise all-natural meal replacements that are riddled with hidden sugars and packed with sodium. Some protein bars may be low in calories, but they can also be extremely tasty. With peanut butter, chocolate and berry flavors, you can easily eat more than the recommended caloric intake.

Frozen Diet Meals

There are oodles of diets on the market. Count carbs, watch calories, take supplements, drink shakes… it’s too confusing! Frozen diet meals are affordable and easy to access, right in your grocer’s freezer. They’re the perfect serving size, but they have hidden dangers. Most are calorie restrictive, and this can cause your body to want more. Many of these meals are also loaded with fillers and sweeteners, which can cause you to become hungry shortly after a meal.

Any and All Fast Food

It’s true, many fast-food joints offer healthy meal choices. This is a great option if you prefer a wrap or salad instead of a greasy burger and fries. While some menu items are relatively healthy, watch for hidden calories, fats and sugars. One surprise is the McDonald’s Crispy Southwest Salad. It’s delicious, but it also has about 480 calories and 22 grams of fat! Stick to their side salad without croutons and cheese. Or select grilled chicken rather than fried.

Stop letting sneaky foods sabotage your diet. Always read the labels and the fine print. Get enough healthy calories through fruits, veggies and lean meats. Stay informed about the foods you eat, and you can stay on track.
